When to request this test

  • Suspected soft-tissue or bone infection

Interferences & limitations

  • Contamination by skin flora during sampling: follow careful aseptic sampling procedure
  • Antibiotic treatment before sampling can inhibit bacterial growth leading to false-negative results

It is recommended to stop antibiotics before sample collection, if possible

  • Sample nature: Soft tissue, bone, synovial fluid, deep pus, false membrane
  • Recommended volume: Several bone samples are recommended to document an osteoarticular infection
  • Type of container: Sterile container

<2h at room temperature (transport without delay in order to preserve anaerobic germs)
