When to request this test

  • Positive HBs Ag
  • Post-vaccination testing: to confirm immunity in high-risk individuals after HBV vaccination (testing anti-HBs)
  • Diagnosis of occult HBV infection: in cases of unexplained liver disease or suspicion of HBV with negative HBs Ag but risk factors for infection

Interferences & limitations

  • False positive results: cross-reactivity with other antigens, autoimmune diseases
  • False negative results: low viral load, certain mutations (e.g. affecting the HBV S region)
