Hepatitis B viral load

HBV DNA, HBV PCR

When to request this test

Diagnosis or monitoring of chronic hepatitis B

Interferences & limitations

  • Extended time between collection and testing: delays in processing the sample can lead to the degradation of viral particles which could affect the test’s sensitivity and accuracy
  • Temperature sensitivity: HBV DNA is sensitive to temperature changes

If the sample is exposed to high temperatures during transport, the viral DNA may degrade, leading to false-negative results or undetectable viral load.

  • Sample nature: Serum or plasma
  • Recommended volume: 5 mL
  • Type of container: EDTA or Serum tube

<2h at room temperature
