- Urethral discharge, pain or burning during urination, dysuria
- Test to diagnose sexually transmitted infections (STIs), like Neisseria gonorrhoeae and Chlamydia trachomatis if PCR or RDT available

- Recent use of antibiotics
- Contamination by skin flora during sampling: follow careful aseptic sampling procedure
