Wound swab, superficial pus

When to request this test

  • Suspected local infection (redness, formation of crusts, purulent discharge), delayed healing, post-chirurgical wounds
  • Diabetic ulcers, pressure ulcers : superficial sampling of chronic wounds is not recommended as a first-line (prefer deeper sampling like biopsy if necessary)

Interferences and limitations

Contamination by skin flora during sampling: debride the wound if possible before sampling a chronic wound. Follow laboratory procedures.
